About

Shirley Miller Brown

Hello and welcome to Shiloh Road Piano. I’m Shirley Miller Brown and I’m so excited to share with you my music and my journey! I grew up on Shiloh Road in a small town in the midwest. It’s where I discovered a love for the piano that has been with me throughout my life. I hope you will be blessed through the songs and the stories as you walk this path with me.

My Story: It Began on Shiloh Road

Hello and welcome to Shiloh Road Piano.

Shiloh Road. Where it all began. This is my story. The story of finding my purpose, my calling and the journey through life.

First, some background…

This is where it all began. I fell in love with the piano at 10 years old, sitting in the church pew, watching the pianist improvise the hymns for congregational singing. I took piano lessons from a man who came to our church once a week: Ellsworth Jackson. I was so intimidated by him. He could play anything and I was mesmerized. He became my hero. I wanted to be just like him.

Then in High School, I discovered: DINO and accompaniment tracks! My music skills grew abundantly as I played and analyzed Dino’s arrangements.

My Senior year of HS, a traveling singing group from Anderson College, Indiana visited our church and I was immediately hooked. I knew I had to go. No doubt. No question. I applied to the college, got accepted, packed the car and headed west.

One of the best decisions I ever made in my life.

Those were the growing years . . . recitals, concerts, competitions, mission trips . . .

Fast forward 12 years and I find myself in the studio recording 10 hymns I arranged for piano.

Over the course of the years, I’ve been blessed to teach, direct, arrange, perform and lead community choirs and events.

I travel an uneven, broken road. We all do on this side of eternity. But, thank God, He’s never left me - or you. And as I walk this road, I’m still learning and growing.

Try not to watch the keys...just let your eyes flow over the page and your hands will follow.

My New Season: Shiloh Road Piano

This season of my life began as a time of reflection . . .

Reflecting upon my beginnings, what brought me to where I am now, writing all those thoughts in my journal, seeking God’s guidance and asking myself many, many questions. Questions like:

  • What is my purpose?

  • Why do I do what I do?

  • What makes my work valuable?

  • Am I adding value to others?

  • How can I be a link between God and others?

  • What is my . . . WHY?

THIS is my WHY: God formed me to play piano.

As I reflected, it became clear that the piano was more than a means to an end. It was a true gift from God and I was meant to play for HIM: the One who created me.

My Music: The Purpose

THAT, too, is MY purpose . . .

  • To finish well . . .

  • To finish the work God formed me to do . . .

  • To make a difference in as many lives as I can along the way . . .

I pray you will be one of them.

I travel an uneven, broken road. We all do on this side of eternity. But, thank God, He’s never left me - or you. And as I walk this road, I’m still learning and growing.

I pray that through my music and sharing parts of my story, you will reflect upon your own broken road and learn of grace. There is no other way to live but GRACE.

Come with me, and my husband Chris, and our black lab, Tucker, in this season and may you be blessed!

Jesus prayed: ‘I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.’
